SOWING SEEDS OF HOPE

A Phoebe is that woman -- the right woman -- who has shown up in your life

at the right place and right time. She helped you understand that life is not perfect, but your story is perfectly yours, and she was there to help you navigate the muddy waters, winding roads, and uncertain pathways of life. Your Phoebe didn't just stumble into your life, she was placed there intentionally. With her support and selfless love, you climbed to heights you could not imagine accomplishing without her. You see, you were her purpose, and she served you well...

Affectionately known as Auntie Margie, this beautiful woman sowed into my life when I was 18 years old. I was preparing to graduate from high school and did not have a clue or any plans about college. The only thing that I knew for sure was that I would be working full time to take care of myself. However, one Sunday after church, she pulled me aside and gave me a $500 check and encouraged me to enroll in junior college. She saw something in me I could not see in myself at the time. I graciously accepted that check and with her help started taking part-time classes at Nassau Community College in 1986. One class at a time, one step at a time and a few states later, I eventually earned my associate degree in business in 1996 from Georgia Perimeter College.

Twenty years later (whew!), after my husband and I raised our two children and a year after the youngest started college, I dipped my toe back into the water to finish what Auntie Margie inspired me to do. I'm grateful, humble and thankful that I achieved my goal and graduated with highest honors in December 2021 from Georgia State University's Andrew Young School of Policy Studies with a BS in Public Policy - Nonprofit Leadership. It was all because Auntie Margie believed in me and sowed into my education and life.

Auntie Margie has since gone home to be with the Lord. However, I will always be grateful for my beautiful Phoebe and I look forward to paying it forward for other young ladies.

Thank you, Auntie Margie, for believing in me!!
