At some point in life, each one of us embarks upon the journey to find our raison d’etre (pronounced razon Detra), which is French for finding our purpose or reason for being. This is a journey that often requires introspection, healing, courage, and a village. And to guide us on this path, I'd like to introduce you to the 4 Rs: Reflection, Release, Risk, and Rally. These four pillars can serve as a compass as we navigate the muddy waters of self-discovery and fulfillment.
Reflection:
We begin the journey with reflection, which requires looking back to move forward. In the fast-paced world we live in, it's easy to get caught up in the daily grind without ever pausing to ask ourselves, "Why am I doing this?" Reflecting on our past experiences, choices, and even our mistakes can provide valuable insights into our true selves. It's like studying a map to understand where we've been and where we might want to go. Take some time to ponder your life's pivotal moments, the activities that bring you joy, and the people who have influenced you. Consider the common thread that runs through these experiences. What are your strengths, values, and passions? By reflecting on these aspects of your life, you can uncover clues about your purpose.
Release:
Once we've reflected on our past, it's time to address the baggage we might be carrying—past hurts, guilt, shame, and bitterness. These emotional burdens can act as anchors or dead weight, holding us back from discovering our purpose and living a fulfilling life. It's essential to release these negative emotions and let go of the things that no longer serve us.
Releasing doesn't mean forgetting or denying our past; it means forgiving ourselves and others, finding closure, and freeing ourselves from the weight of unresolved emotions. Healing is an essential part of finding our purpose because it allows us to move forward with a lighter heart and a clearer mind.
Risk:
With reflection and release as our foundation, we come to the stage of risk. This is where we get vulnerable and take a chance on our dreams. Discovering your purpose often involves stepping outside your comfort zone, trying new things, and taking risks. It requires bravado to pursue your passions, even when there are no guarantees of success.
Think about what you truly want in life. Is it a career change, starting your own business, pursuing a creative endeavor, or making a difference in your community? Whatever it is, embrace the uncertainty, and take that leap of faith. It's through taking risks that we learn, grow, and inch closer to our purpose.
Rally:
Lastly, finding your purpose is not a solo journey. It's about surrounding yourself with those who trust and believe in you—your support system. These are the people who cheer you on, offer guidance, and provide a safety net when you're taking risks. They are your rallying force.
For me, it's my village of trusted and chosen women who have helped me navigate life's muddy waters. They are my Phoebes! For you, I encourage you to connect with mentors, friends, and family members who genuinely care about your well-being and dreams. Share your aspirations with them, seek their advice, and let them inspire and motivate you. Building a strong support network is crucial because on this journey there will be setbacks, roadblocks, heartbreaks, and challenges. Having people who believe in you can make all the difference in staying committed to your purpose.
In conclusion, finding your purpose is a profound and often transformative journey. Remember to reflect on your past, release emotional baggage, take risks on your dreams, and surround yourself with a supportive community. Each of these steps brings you closer to discovering your purpose and living a truly meaningful life.
I encourage each of you to embark on this journey, look within, let go, step out of your comfort zone, and lean on your support system. In doing so, you'll not only find your purpose but also create a life filled with passion, fulfillment, and authenticity.

We are interdependent beings and are supposed to love others, support others, sow seeds in other lives, and do it in community.
